What should I expect from DriveTech?

DriveTech will provide you with classroom instruction on how to drive a real racecar and then you can take the wheel.

Race against your instructor or "ride along" with a veteran Busch North driver. We can create a racing package to meet any request.

DriveTech provides the best value in the driving experience industry.

DriveTech accomplishes this by utilizing an incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable staff, beautiful NASCAR racecars, and state of the art technology to complete your racing experience.

DriveTech promises to never forget that driving a racecar just simply rocks! Whether it's your first time or forty-first time, you can't help but feel the excitement each time you're behind the wheel.

Here's 10 reasons why you should choose DriveTech for your racing experience.

MORE TRACK TIME - MORE LAPS
Drivetech gives you up to twice as much track time as the stock car “driving experiences” and other schools. You might choose Drivetech for this reason alone.

MORE SPEED

When driving a stock car it’s the turns, not the straights, which get your attention. We let you drive through the corners as fast as it’s safe for the car to go without exposing you to undue risk. But some “driving experiences” focus on straightaway speed. (Some even report false numbers to make their customers feel good.) At Drivetech, you’ll get all the speed you can handle and you won’t go faster anywhere else. Freedom on the track At Drivetech you’ll be in the car by yourself and drive at your own pace. We give you the control and freedom of driving a racecar on your own. You won’t get that freedom everywhere else.

Most companies simply don't trust you. Some will require you to follow another car driven by one of their employees for the entire time you are on the track. They won't let you drive close to the leader or go faster than he does. Instead, you'll have to maintain a set interval behind him. You’ll spend your laps watching his rear bumper, not the track. Other companies will require you to carry one of their employees as a passenger. His only communication with you is by hand gestures. Giving you freedom is not a priority.

We've proven that students can have the fun of driving on their own while still being safe. However, we’ll assign a leader or a passenger to any Drivetech student who requests one. There’s no charge but advance reservations are required.

PASSING PERMITTED & ENCOURAGED
You’ll practice passing during the warm up laps so that when the green flag flies you’ll be ready to go. Then, as you close in on a slower car, its driver will be radioed to move over and you’ll be given permission to pass. You can hear how this works under “Coaching by radio” below.

Surprisingly, some of the stock car “driving experiences” don’t allow passing, even in their most advanced classes. This can lead to frustration and disappointment for faster drivers. Other companies do allow passing, but require you to interpret hand gestures from a passenger to know when it’s time to pass or be passed. Many students find this distracting and even confusing.

DRAFTING & SIDE-BY-SIDE DRIVING
Drivetech students often follow one another two to three car lengths apart, closer than what some schools call drafting! In our one and two-day classes, there is an exciting side-by-side driving exercise, shown here.

COACHING BY RADIO

Most racecars have radios, but Drivetech is one of the few schools to give its students this valuable tool. Your instructor uses a one-way radio to coach you and your classmates as you drive. It’s a lot like being in a race with a spotter giving you guidance and telling you when it’s safe to pass. At most other schools and “driving experiences” there’s no communication or instruction while you drive.

WARM UP LAPS
It may not sound exciting, but it’s one of the most important things we do for you. Think about it: Shouldn’t you have a chance to get used to your car and the track before you go fast? Drivetech gives you the time to do that by beginning each class with a 4-5 lap warm up session that you won’t find anywhere else. Our pace car leads the field while you get the feel of your car and the track, participate in a passing exercise and scrub your tires. Then, just as in a race, the pace car pulls off the track and the flagman waves the green flag. Now you can drive with confidence for the rest of your track time.

You won’t find a warm up session at the other major schools. Because of this you may not feel comfortable until near the end of your drive. You may not realize it, but a complete eight or ten lap program at some schools may take fewer than 10 minutes. That’s less time than Drivetech’s students spend on their warm up alone!

THE MOST RACE-LIKE PROGRAM
You’ll be on track with four to eight classmates, depending on the size of the track. That’s enough cars to make it interesting but not crowded. Drivetech is the only major company to provide a stock car program where friends and relatives can be on the track at the same time and not be held back by a leader or a passenger. While we don’t allow actual racing, you’ll be able to tell how you’re doing compared to the other drivers.

IN-CAR-VIDEO

We’re one of the few schools to equip its cars with video cameras and recorders. It’s a tough environment, so we use cameras that are specially built for racecars, and recorders like those used in police cars. The camera looks through the windshield and records your view in color and with sound. You can have a DVD for an additional cost to re-live your experience over and over or to show to your family and friends. (Purchase optional)

NO UNNECESSARY WAITING
At Drivetech, you come first so we give you a driving appointment and never make you wait in line. But most “driving experiences” and some schools plan to make you wait. You and 30 or more other customers will arrive at the same time because it’s efficient to process all of you in a mass meeting. But because only a few people can drive at a time, you may have to endure the frustration of waiting three or four more hours before it’s your turn. Even an airport on a bad day is better than that, and you sure wouldn’t stand for an airline that did that to you on purpose.

There are no mass meetings and no long waits at Drivetech. We created an appointment system that lets you choose from up to 10 starting times throughout the day, and our “on time” performance is outstanding. You’ll know in advance when you’ll drive and when your session will end. If friends and family (especially young children) are accompanying you this can be a particularly valuable benefit. Why should they wait either?

You’ll receive your instruction in a small group composed of just the people that will be with you on the track. After the classroom session you’ll go directly to your car and drive without waiting! At Drivetech you’re always welcome to come early and stay late—you just don’t have to.
